About John Knox: Photographer, Espanola, Ontario Canada

I have been photographing for a long while although more intently over the last five years. In my photographs I try to use bold color and strong elements of visual design to create impact. I try also to stir a spiritual or emotional response through association of subject elements and by contrasting strong and weak, temporal and eternal, small and grand scale elements. I have enjoyed playing with scale, enlarging my images as much as possible, usually up to 20”x30”, some up to 40”x60.” I often frame my images as richly as possible, believing the integration of the photographic image and the frame creates the most visual and visceral impact.

I have photographed primarily in color slide film to obtain rich detail and color saturation. I have been primarily self-taught although have benefited greatly from workshops with Freeman Patterson, Andre Gallant and others.

I have participated in many art shows in the Sudbury/Manitoulin Island/North Shore region. I have also had a solo exhibit at the ARTA Gallery in Toronto, May 19-31, 2007 supported by the Ontario Arts Council, an Agency of the Government of Ontario.
